"DroneBase raises $12M in Series B funding, announces enterprise AR tool"
- techcrunch
When you're asked to lead the creative vision for a drone startup wanting to get into the Augmented Reality space, you just say yes. We had less than 4 months to create an AR platform for drone pilots to experience, create, build, and race anywhere, even their own backyard.
"If you build it, they will drone." - Me
Working in weekly sprints we began to design and mock up what this virtual experience could feel like. It was a beautiful symphony amongst design and engineering coming together to implement drone camera feed, altitude, DJI drone controllers, AR user interface, Unity assets, computer vision with object recognition, and relative GPS for virtual placement of objects.

Now that we got our feet wet we started to explore and build AR objects using Unity and prototype simulator. From the Happy Face Emojis to Minions, Crossy Road Chicken to business logos like Starbucks and Intel, and even landmarks. Quickly we saw the potential of this platform becoming a place of discovery, creativity, content creation, and business experiences.
Creative roles expanded to include brand identity, product design, UI/UX, web design, mobile design, app design, video, live action, digital design, logo design, 3D motion design, animation, art direction, creative direction, marketing launch, dashboard, content creation, product testing, case studies, editorial partnerships, beta-testing, & flying drones.
Press coverage for the launch included local TV news stations to the internets, even social influencers on Youtube gave us some love. Additional exposure on CNET, The Drive, VR Scout, MSN, CBS2, KCAL9, DroneLife, BusinessWire, Medium, VRFocus, Yahoo, NextReality, and Bloomberg.
My creative efforts and leadership combined with the DB team helped lead DroneBase to a highly successful round of funding for Series B. Also, we made it to BuiltInLA's 50 Startups to watch in 2018. Article Link
